                        Medical Clinic
When “Amanda” visited the Fan Free Clinic (FFC) she was literally starving -- her weight was down to 90 pounds and she was eating only once a day. Amanda met with the clinic’s Medical Case Manager to discuss her situation. The Medical Case Manager provided Amanda with food from the FFC food pantry to help with her immediate needs and also assisted her in getting registered for food stamps.

A few weeks later Amanda stopped by the clinic to update the staff on her progress. Amanda was delighted to share with them that she had recently acquired a job and she stated that she had so many food choices in her house now that she didn’t know what to eat next!
Medical Clinic
Medical services at the Clinic are offered through multiple day and evening clinic sessions each week, which include general medicine, gynecology, pediatrics, primary care, family planning, and sexually transmitted infection testing and treatment, as well as day and evening hours for HIV antibody testing. Medical services are provided free of charge by volunteer medical professionals who are assisted by community volunteers. Patients are referred to FFC through a variety of channels, including: word-of-mouth, other providers, and street outreach.
With the addition of a Nurse Practitioner in early 2007, Fan Free Clinic anticipates over 7,500 patient visits annually!  This represents a 50% increase over the last fiscal year. In FY 2007, Fan Free Clinic aims to:
  • Provide primary medical care to over 3,000 unduplicated patients annually, with those numbers expected to increase over the next several years. These visits will involve extensive patient education in addition to treatment.
  • Provide care for patients with chronic diseases, including procurement of free on-going medications for many through drug companies’ Prescription Assistance Programs.
  •  Provide medical case management to connect eligible patients with FAMIS, Medicaid, VCC (i.e., medical care at VCU Hospitals), food stamps, or FFC’s own Food Pantry.
