FFC’s Health Education & Outreach Department has a long and storied history. What began in 1983 (during the early days of the AIDS epidemic) as an HIV-information hotline has grown to become an 11-person staff responsible for developing, promoting and administering a variety of health-related programs throughout central Virginia.

We make nearly 8,000 outreach contacts per year and conduct 1,800 HIV tests annually!

Fan Free Clinic’s mission is to welcome the least served—and nowhere at FFC is this more demonstrated than through our health education and outreach efforts. Though our services are available to anyone, the Health Education & Outreach Department prides itself on being culturally-sensitive and welcoming of populations often marginalized and over-looked. From persons of color to GLBTQQ (Gay, Lesbian, Bi-sexual, Transgender, “Queer” and “q”uestioning) individuals to those who are incarcerated or recently-released… the Health Education & Outreach Department has programming designed with accessibility in mind.

We practice what we preach, too. Diversity is so greatly valued at FFC that our staff mirrors and is very much representative of the individuals and communities we serve. Check out our staff list (which includes a notation to indicate the populations and activities we each specifically work with.)
